For over 30 years, Derek has thrived in the rapidly changing world of Engineered Wood Products. His calm demeanor, reliability, and delivering on what he promises, has allowed Derek to successfully lead teams at Tolko, Canfor, Trus Joist and Anthony Forest Products. His academic credentials and technical expertise in structural wood products, paired with his enthusiasm for the tall wood building revolution, are the foundation for Derek’s ability to effectively lead the team to success.
Stephen Tolnai

Stephen has spent 30 years in the wood products industry, dedicating the past eleven to mass timber. He was part of the team that brought CLT to North America and worked to create market acceptance and building code approval. Stephen educated leaders at companies like Google and Microsoft to help them understand the environmental benefits of mass timber. He also led the negotiation of mass timber for one of the world’s tallest wood buildings in Vancouver, Canada.
Jim Griswold

With over 30 years’ experience in engineered wood products and structural adhesive technology, Jim has a wealth of knowledge of wood products manufacturing. As a member of the AITC technical advisory committee and board of directors, Jim spent many years developing mass timber. He helped form the ANSI 405 Standard for Adhesives for Use in Structural Glued Laminated Timber. That Standard remains as the current standard for glulam and also CLT.
Brian Davidson

Brian started his career in public accounting with three years at a CPA firm, then moving into the manufacturing industry with two international manufacturing operations. Both had multiple locations and accounting/finance teams to manage. Over his career he has had extensive work in budgeting, forecasting, product costing and financial reporting. For the past 20 years, Brian was the Corporate Controller for Great Southern Wood Preserving.
Jim Henjum

Jim has been involved in project design, management, and consulting engineering for over 20 years. He has designed and delivered over 100 mass timber projects and has been a member of the ANSI/APA PRG-320: Standard for Performance- Rated CLT committee since 2017. Jim is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in MT and WA, and licensed structural engineer (SE) in ID.
Bob Maslowski
Manager - Projects
Bob has been a Project Manager in world-class production environments for over 20 years. He has managed and coordinated a portfolio of large-scale mass timber construction projects and has partnered with world-wide clientele on multi-million dollar projects. From the largest glulam beams ever made, to highly technical arches for a complicated roof structure, Bob has applied his problem solving and negotiation skills to ensure a smooth installation process.
Cory Scrivner
Technical Sales Manager
Cory is a mass timber specialist with technical expertise in structural wood products. His enthusiasm for tall wood buildings and sustainable solutions, drive his desire to promote mass timber across the US. As the Technical Sales Manager, Cory and his team are focused on partnering with designers, builders and developers who want mass timber solutions that are well engineered, provide elegant architectural design, and are environmentally responsible.
Charles Gale

Charles Gale guides our sustainability efforts and ensures sustainable forest management remains at the forefront of our business. Currently, Charles is SmartLam’s Strategic Business Analyst, the person responsible for creating innovative solutions for our mass timber supply chain. He currently serves on the board of the Forest Product Society (FPS), is part of SFI’s task force, and is an active member of the Society of American Foresters.

Dave is a veteran in the wood products industry. He has extensive experience with engineered wood products in retail, distribution, manufacturing, and, most recently, as a Mass Timber Specialist for Smartlam. His technical background, financial acumen, and heartfelt enthusiasm for the environmental sustainability aspects of wood products uniquely position him to assist customers with commodity & project glulam opportunities and semi-commodity CLT solutions.
