Description:

The Machine Operator will be responsible for performing various tasks including set up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on assigned machines. The Machine Operator will work in a small group setting (2- 7 other employees). The Machine Operator will also be responsible for inspecting parts to ensure they meet specifications, making adjustments, or tool changes as necessary to maintain quality specifications.  Will train.  Day shift and Evening shift openings.             

Machine centers openings include:

  • Finger Jointer
  • CLT Press
  • Sander
  • CNC
  • Planer

Duties and Responsibilities: (Will Train)

  • Comply with all safety and health regulations
  • Set up, operate, and monitor a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion
  • Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials
  • Troubleshoot issues and perform minor maintenance
  • Follow SOP’s to ensure quality products are produced
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Cross train in other machine centers
  • Cross train other operators

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred but not required)
  • Mechanical skills (Preferred but not required)
  • Previous machine operator experience in a manufacturing facility. (Preferred but not required)
  • Basic computer skills (Preferred but not required)
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to work different shifts (Preferred not necessarily requires)

Description

The Production Supervisor manages all operators and production activities on the plant floor during their designated shift. He/she is responsible for meeting shift targets for scheduled production and shipping of CLT, GLT and related components. This role will be the direct manager for each operator at each machine center, with >90% of his/her time spent on the factory floor overseeing operations and lending guidance and support where needed. The Production Supervisor contributes to the success of SmartLam North America by ensuring scheduled work is produced on-time, within budgetary constraints, with the highest quality and uncompromising safety.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, training and development of plant machine center operators and support staff to create effective teams and efficient shift production
  • Motivates personnel to achieve rigorous production targets
  • Communicates with Project Managers and Production Manager for status updates and production reports
  • Immediately raises awareness regarding quality and schedule risks which may impact customers
  • Fosters strong working relationship with Maintenance Team to enable immediate support for equipment issues
  • Ensures production is carried out in a safe and efficient manner with a high level of quality
  • Identifies opportunities for cost control and ongoing process improvement
  • Effectively implements cost reduction initiatives
  • Maintains high standards for a safe working environment at all times, trains others and enforces policies
  • Conducts annual reviews of all direct reports with support from Plant Manager and HR
  • Ensures operators have the information, tools and resources necessary to meet production requirements
  • Operates with transparency and earns trust at all levels through communication and actions
  • Maintains excellent time and attendance record, and holds direct reports to the same standard

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, both mechanical and electrical.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising people in a manufacturing environment, preferably wood processing.
  • Capable of operating and training individuals on all tools and equipment centers
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Creative problem solver
  • Positive attitude with a track record of delivering results
  • Proficient with computers and MS Office Suite

 

 

 

  • Maintains strong understanding of product standards including APA-PRG-320
  • Maintains strong understanding of all manufacturing and related SOPs associated with their supervisory duties
  • Capable of operating effectively during periods of high stress with aggressive deadlines.
  • Deescalate conflicts when needed.
  • Self-motivated and operates with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to motivate, manage, and develop people of all skill levels effectively.
  • Trained in health and safety areas such as first aid, CPR, AED

Our engineered wood products client, with fabrication plants in the Southern and Western US, is seeking a qualified leader of construction-focused projects to oversee all phases of mass timber orders to be supplied to a wide range of building contractors in the US. The selected candidate will monitor the scope, costs, and shipping schedules, staffing, communications with outside vendors and contractual service providers. In addition, the manager will work with the engineering design team, 3D modeling, shop drawing processes, and the production lines. The manager will also supervise all project leaders assigned to specific customers and ensure on-time shipments are satisfied to meet the building contractor needs.

The selected candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in construction management and at least five years of management experience in construction and wood manufacturing. A demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction documents, be detailed oriented and self-motivated, and be capable of multi-tasking with minimal direct supervision is a must. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills and knowledge of a wide variety of computer-based programs, including CAD and CRM software. Day shift            6am-4:30 pm M-Th (Normal shifts)

Swing shift        4:30 – 2:30 M-Th (Day shift to start initially)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working in a team environment in a wood manufacturing setting
  • Follows safe work practices. Employee safety is the up most important to us!
  • Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment
  • May be required to use floor, palm, and belt sanders and other hand and other small hand-held tools as necessary to meet finishing standards
  • May sort lumber
  • May be required to use/apply epoxy fillers or glue product as needed
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Team Member oriented 
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships and interact with co-workers
  • Able to clearly communicate with coworkers and Team Leader
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to use tape measures and other basic small tools.
  • Basic computer skills
