The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate budgets, proposals, and hard bids for the Smartlam Mass Timber Specialist (MTS) team. This person will be expected to ensure that Smartlam has an accurate scope of material, perform material takeoffs, prepare bid documents, and complete bid documents before the due date.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews plans and performs material takeoff from project drawings for CLT and glulam packages with all subcomponents of package included with review by Sr. Estimator.
  • Work in partnership with MTS and engineering teams to provide alternate or VE options for bids and prepare material takeoff prepared for each option.
  • Examine and analyze project drawings and specifications and incorporate them into sales template inputs and material takeoff.
  • Communicate to MTS project specific bid criteria such as lumber sourcing requirements, sustainability requirements, need for delegated design and specialty scope items.
  • Requesting quotes from suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors for buyout scope
  • Complete bid form for RFP’s and ensure compliance with all bid documents.
  • Prepare Smartlam bids before the due date and ensure specifications and scope of material takeoff are reflected in scope section of bid with project specific notes for specialty scope or exclusions.
  • Update bids as needed by MTS to incorporate additional options requested by the customer.
  • Participate in upkeep of pricing and costing databases.
  • By request of MTS communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors to review bid scope.
  • Lead Margin Review Meetings with Smartlam team to review proposal and determine final margin.
  • Adhere to Smartlam estimating processes and material takeoff presentation.

Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced carpenter to join our team and help us create the next generation of beautiful designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, as well as experience with a variety of tools and techniques. He or she will be able to work independently, as well as take direction from our lead carpenter.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level

Job Description

Yard Jockey is a truck driver who is responsible for moving trailers at truck yards, rail yards, factories, plants and warehouses. These facilities often have large yards and docks where trucks load and unload products and resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily equipment inspections including our tractor and any trailers before moving them. 
  • Back Trailer in mill for loading CLT to bring out to the yard. 
  • Take the chip trailers from SmartLam to Peak.
  • Shuttle inbound rail from across the street at Greenpoint.
  • Spot empty as well as loaded trailers for preloading and unloading.
  • Assist with loading and spotting when needed.
  • Communicate with Supervisor for truck/trailer and door assignments.
  • Move trailers between buildings as directed by Router or Shipping Supervisor.
  • Load, unload, or merge loads between environments.
  • Set up trailers for backhaul with tractor.
  • Must attend all required company meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 20 to 80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift required.
  • Comfortable driving and working in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have valid driver’s license issued by state of residence and clear MVR.
  • Minimum of six months CDL commercial driving experience preferred.

Summary

Safety Coordinator will inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment, and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) safety regulations and industry standards. The chief goal is to protect the employees, customers, contractors, and the environment. Manage, plan, implement and oversee the policies and procedures of SmartLam North America’s Safety Program. Educate employees on how to prevent health problems through the use of safety training programs. They also investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement OHSA policies and programs.
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics.
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis.

Description:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate budgets, proposals, and hard bids for the Smartlam Mass Timber Specialist (MTS) team. This person will be expected to ensure that Smartlam has an accurate scope of material, perform material takeoffs, prepare bid documents, and complete bid documents before the due date.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews plans and performs material takeoff from project drawings for CLT and glulam packages with all subcomponents of package included with review by Sr. Estimator.
  • Work in partnership with MTS and engineering teams to provide alternate or VE options for bids and prepare material takeoff prepared for each option.
  • Examine and analyze project drawings and specifications and incorporate them into sales template inputs and material takeoff.
  • Communicate to MTS project specific bid criteria such as lumber sourcing requirements, sustainability requirements, need for delegated design and specialty scope items.
  • Requesting quotes from suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors for buyout scope
  • Complete bid form for RFP’s and ensure compliance with all bid documents.
  • Prepare Smartlam bids before the due date and ensure specifications and scope of material takeoff are reflected in scope section of bid with project specific notes for specialty scope or exclusions.
  • Update bids as needed by MTS to incorporate additional options requested by the customer.
  • Participate in upkeep of pricing and costing databases.
  • By request of MTS communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors to review bid scope.
  • Lead Margin Review Meetings with Smartlam team to review proposal and determine final margin.
  • Adhere to Smartlam estimating processes and material takeoff presentation.

  • Primary point of contact for customer and internal stakeholders throughout project lifecycle.

Description:

The Shipping and Receiving Associate will accept and process inbound shipments. Verify delivered items, unload trucks, ensure items are stored correctly, and process returns. Loads outbound trucks to instruction specification and securely to prevent shifting or damage in transit. Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials. Ultimately, should be able to ensure efficient shipping and receiving processes and promptly resolve any problems or discrepancies. Contributes to building a positive team spirit and supports everyone’s efforts to succeed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Loading outbound trucks and unloading inbound trucks.
  • As shipments of new lumber come into the yard, team members unload trucks, organizes and storing received items in appropriate areas. 
  • Inspecting deliveries to ensure they match order and invoice criteria.
  • Inspects all incoming products for damage.
  • Processing returns for incorrect or unsatisfactory items.
  • Receives loading instructions, then loads trucks and verifies the accuracy of lumber materials to be delivered. Providing safe and timely loading.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional attitude, good conduct, and appearance.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner by working with team members and/or managers to resolve challenges.

Reporting To: Maintenance Superintendent

Location: Columbia Falls, MT

Travel: Minimal

The Industrial Electrician installs new equipment, conduit, wiring and connection boxes per standards. Determines the parts required for proper installation and obtains them. Electrician will perform troubleshooting and repair of equipment with voltage ratings up to and including 600 volts. Performs general troubleshooting of lighting circuits. Replaces motion sensors, photo eyes and switches. Will clearly communicates with coworkers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows safe work practices. Employee safety is the utmost important to us!
  • Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment
  • Performs highly skilled electrical maintenance tasks including equipment installation
  • Repair and PM electrical machinery; this may include, but not limited to, such equipment as AC/DC motors, drives, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyors and instrumentation and PLC controls
  • In downtime situations, must be able to analyze cause of breakdown with equipment
  • Must also determine and complete maintenance repairs required to return the equipment to effective operating conditions
  • Follow and adhere to safety lockout procedures and strictly adhere to plant safety rules
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as in a group
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area

Required Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Stable employment history with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in Industrial Maintenance work AND/OR equivalent education to include vocational/technical school certificate/diploma
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, on-call and rotating shifts and holidays
  • Proficient in use of hand and power tools
  • Experience with reading electrical drawings and schematics
  • Troubleshooting experience, including the use of necessary test instruments such as digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, megger, etc.
  • Experience using a computer for record keeping and documentation
  • Able to work in extreme heat/cold, navigate catwalks and ladders
  • Physical ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, which includes climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping and bending
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively
  • Comprehension of complex work instructions and documentation
