Job Title: Production Floater & Forklift Operator Date: March 2022

Description

The Production Floater & Forklift Operator is accountable for moving stock, or other materials to and from production areas, or storage yard as well as maintaining product flow, communication and coordination with managers, supervisors, maintenance, and other members of the production team. This position will float throughout the Production Department, working in various areas, as needed. Forklift experience required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate and coordinate with managers, supervisors, lead person, maintenance, and peers.
  • Keep work area clean and use safe work habits
  • Know and follow safety requirements for safe operation of all forklifts onsite
  • Perform routine inspections on equipment and notify maintenance team and supervisor and/or lead person when maintenance is needed.
  • Monitors gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly
  • Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices to load, unload, transport, or stack material.
  • Safely move product around the warehouse or facility to support production flow.

Description
The Grader is accountable for sorting and grading incoming lumber according to SmartLam production needs and standards. He/she works with a team to maintain lumber flow, communication and coordination with the Lead Grader, and the Finger-Joint Operators to ensure sufficient lumber has been graded and made available to support scheduled production. The Grader also supports routine inventory counts, as directed by the Plant Manager. This is a physically demanding position requiring the ability to be on one’s feet for an entire shift and repeatedly lift 50 pounds. Forklift Operator experience desired.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for grading lumber to meet SmartLam product guidelines and APA PRG-320 standards.
• Measures moisture content with handheld or automated meters and systems.
• Monitors for unacceptable levels of pitch, wane, cook, bow, knots and other wood defects.
• Accurately identifies appropriate “bin” (or grade) based on above criteria.
• Supports accurate recording of lumber grading results needed for inventory management.
• Fills out paperwork and/or enters information directly into Zoho.
• Collaborates with team members to safely and efficiently process large volumes of lumber.
• Participates in periodic inventory counts as requested by Plant Manager.
• Stickers and restacks wet lumber in need of drying.
• Creates legible labels and retags lumber bundles when needed.
• Suggests opportunities for process improvement to support increased grading throughput.

Description

The Production Finisher is accountable for fixing and repairing defects identified after the CNC process. The Production Finisher is also accountable for finishing panels to the specifications set by the Project Management and Design teams.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing the quality and optimal flow of product
  • Ensures panels meet finishing requirements as per specification
  • Maintains accountability of finishing tools and equipment, required maintenance, supplies, etc.
  • Follows SOPs for tool operation and product finishing work
  • Finishing and repairing child panels in accordance with APA and SmartLam standards
  • Conducting and recording quality checks based on QA checklist. Communicate with QA quickly if product does not meet specifications or tolerances

Description

Description

Description
The Industrial Maintenance Technician – 2nd Shift, is accountable for keeping the production machinery functioning in a proper manner to ensure manufacturing schedules and targets are met. This role focuses on promoting equipment longevity and operational efficiency through preventative maintenance and downtime minimization. Proficiency with equipment maintenance, technical understanding, troubleshooting, dealing with uncertainty, and a safety-conscious mindset are required.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures operation of machinery and equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, VFDs, soft starts and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Locates the source of problem by observing mechanical and electrical devices in operation, using precision measuring, and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, hand, and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
• Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, squares, multimeters, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, straightedges, multimeters, and basic electrical component programing knowledge.
• Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation, welders, torches, grinders, drills, hydraulic press, and all other tools/equipment associated with Industrial Maintenance.

Reporting to the Plant Manager and working in-line with the Corporate Strategic Business Analyst, the Production and Safety Coordinator helps plan and execute efficient production flow for SmartLam’s materials. The Production and Safety Coordinator works within SmartLam’s process to implement/maintain and improve production schedules and inventory while working with various departments to optimize quality, production, and efficiency, ensuring product and projects are delivered to customers on time, while ensuring that the associates, equipment, building, and products follow OSHA and State regulations and standards.

• Creates and promotes a safe environment for the production of structurally sound wood products by promoting a culture where health and safety come first.

Description The Design Manager is accountable for supporting the Engineering and Design department to ensure that Mass Timber projects are completed accurately and are issued for review, fabrication and construction in a timely manner. The primary objectives are to manage the design/detailing team, design for optimal manufacturing and assembly, and ensuring that SmartLam’s high level of service is provided on every project.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage all technical aspects of the design department which include, but may not be limited to:
• Mass Timber Design – Cross Laminated Timber, Glulam, etc.
• Miscellaneous Steel Detailing
• Design Standard manuals
• Education and Training documents
• Manage Smartlam’s internal and external design and detailing team.
• Own the modeling, detailing, submittal approval and pre-production processes for projects delivered by Smartlam, which includes but is not limited to:
• Design and draft in 2D/3D CadWork, Auto-CAD, and Revit.
• Develop Mass Timber submittal drawings, shop drawings, and production drawings using CadWork software.
• Coordinate project information with design team.
• Manage and Track project RFI’s
• Manage project team, scope and schedule for project delivery.
• Create project design fee estimations and scheduling.
• Support nesting of Mass Timber project for production.
• Provide necessary data to the production team for the manufacturing of CLT and GL components.

Our Engineered Wood Products client with manufacturing plants in the Eastern and Western US is seeking a qualified estimator to review plans and project estimates (in partnership with sales and engineering teams), establish and maintain tendering processes, and prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors. The selected candidate will prepare estimates and quotes of probable costs of materials, labor and equipment, along with developing reliable subcontractor and vendor relationships (jointly with the Project Management team) to obtain good subcomponent pricing. The estimator will be in regular contact with all invested parties (engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors), develop and maintain quoting tools and templates, and build pricing and costing databases. The estimator will also ensure compliance with bid documents, train and supervise other estimators with the latest tools and techniques in the field, and lead bid reviews with customers as needed.

The selected candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in construction management or construction/civil technical diploma with some estimating experience in construction, engineered wood manufacturing, design, or a related field. The final candidate must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret construction documents, be detailed oriented, self-motivated and capable of multitasking with minimal direct supervision. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills, including the use of a wide variety of computer-based programs (including BlueBeam, CAD, and the Microsoft Suite).

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large amounts of data to determine patterns and trends etc.
• Knowledge and competency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite of products. Excel, Power Query, Power Pivot experience preferred.
• Experience with Production and Inventory ERP systems and Wearhouse Management Systems (WMS), Epicor, NetSuite, SAP a plus.
• Critical thinking skills to determine conclusions from the analysis and to provide recommendations

Description:

The Machine Operator will be responsible for performing various tasks including set up, operating, monitoring, troubleshooting and performing preventive maintenance on assigned machines. The Machine Operator will work in a small group setting (2- 7 other employees). The Machine Operator will also be responsible for inspecting parts to ensure they meet specifications, making adjustments, or tool changes as necessary to maintain quality specifications.  Will train.  Day shift and Evening shift openings.             

Machine centers openings include:

  • Finger Jointer
  • CLT Press
  • Sander
  • CNC
  • Planer

Duties and Responsibilities: (Will Train)

  • Comply with all safety and health regulations
  • Set up, operate, and monitor a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion
  • Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials
  • Troubleshoot issues and perform minor maintenance
  • Follow SOP’s to ensure quality products are produced
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Cross train in other machine centers
  • Cross train other operators

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred but not required)
  • Mechanical Skills (Preferred but not required)
  • Previous machine operator experience in a manufacturing facility. (Preferred but not required)
  • Basic computer skills (Preferred but not required)
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to work different shifts (Preferred not necessarily requires)
  • Self-motivated and capable of operating with minimal supervision
  • Reliable individual with an excellent time and attendance record

The Production Team Member will receive on-the-job training. Working in a team environment within a wood manufacturing setting. Follows guidance, written and verbal instructions from experienced employees and team leader.  

Day shift            6am-4:30 pm M-Th (Normal shifts)

Swing shift        2:30pm to 12:30am, M-F (Day shift to start initially)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working in a team environment in a wood manufacturing setting
  • Follows safe work practices. Employee safety is the up most important to us!
  • Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment
  • May be required to use floor, palm, and belt sanders and other hand and other small hand-held tools as necessary to meet finishing standards
  • May sort lumber
  • May be required to use/apply epoxy fillers or glue product as needed
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships and interact with co-workers
  • Able to clearly communicate with coworkers and Team Leader
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to use tape measures and other basic small tools.
