Casey Malmquist – President and General Manager
Casey Malmquist, President and General Manager of SmartLam, has served in this position since SmartLam’s inception in January of 2012. Mr. Malmquist has led the SmartLam team from a ground level startup to becoming a globally-recognized producer of Cross-Laminated Timber products. Mr. Malmquist has over 30 years’ experience owning and operating a successful construction and development company. Casey graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and holds a BS degree in Environmental Sciences.
Robert Tudhope – R&D/Product Development
Mr. Tudhope is responsible for research and product development at SmartLam. Mr. Tudhope has over 20 years of Design/Build experience serving the aerospace and other advanced technology industries and over 15 years of experience in Research and Product Development in the technology sector.
Prior to joining SmartLam, he was the Director of Product Development for Bridgelux, Inc., listed consistently on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 and is one of the Bay Area’s largest private companies. At Bridgelux he managed teams focused on creating commercial products using the Company’s proprietary technologies. Team priorities included product configuration, materials and methods, manufacturing processes, qualification testing and product certifications.
Mr. Tudhope holds a number of U.S. and International Patents.
Pete Krona – Facilities
Pete Krona is SmartLam’s Plant Manager. Born and raised in Whitefish, Montana, he spent four years in the U.S. Navy as a Hull technician, certified welder. Before coming to SmartLam, he worked for Plum Creek as a Millwright for 25 years. In addition to SmartLam, he is the owner of FAB48, a small custom welding shop which specializes in race car chassis fabrication and upgrades. Married for 21 years to his wife Kena, they have two daughters, Codi and Taylor, and one son, Blaine. In his spare time, he enjoys drag racing, skiing, scuba diving, and hockey.
Jim Henjum – Structural Engineer PE,SE
Jim Henjum manages the engineering and design department at Smartlam. With over 20 years of experience in the structural engineering field, Jim has been involved in the design of commercial structures, high-end residential structures, renovation and retrofits to existing buildings, specialty structures, and municipal structures while designing with multiple materials including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood products. He has been providing engineering and consulting services for SmartLam since inception that include manufacturing process and engineering support for products and the design of CLT matting, bridges and building structures and joined the team full time in 2017.
Mr. Henjum is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the states Montana and Washington and holds a structural license (SE) in the state of Idaho. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
Janene Adams – Accounting & Office Manager
Ms. Adams is responsible for the accounting, receivable, and payable systems for Smartlam. She has been with Smartlam since the its inception, and has 25 years of accounting experience. Janene is a Montana native, born and raised in Eastern Montana. In addition to working for Smartlam, Janene runs the office for Malmquist Construction, where she has worked for 20 years.
